Cllr Christine France

I was born in South Cumbria (Westmorland) but have spent most of my married life working in schools on the Cumbrian West coast whilst living near Cockermouth. We moved back to South Cumbria in 2015; it was like coming home, and Allithwaite is a lovely place to live.
We have two daughters and four grandchildren; none of them live nearby. I am interested in conservation and gardening, cats, reading, and walking, and until lockdown spent many weekends at Old Trafford Football Ground.

I’m currently learning a foreign language and running Allithwaite Free Mini Library with my husband.

Lead Projects & Responsibilities

  • Liaison with Cumbria County Council Highways
  • Organise use of the Speed Gun, liaising with Lower Holker PC
  • hared project leading with the development of Allithwaite Quarry
  • On the working groups for Parish Cottage and Website development.
  • Liaison between Russell Armer (builders) and community. (should finish in September 2021)
  • PC link with King George V Playground.

Cllr Mike Lamb - Allithwaite

Cllr Mike Lamb – Vice Chairman

Mike lives in Allithwaite and is currently the vice-chair. Mike spent a few years in the forces before continuing his career in the NHS as a Critical Care Nurse. After being made redundant Mike joined VSO and several other agencies to work in the Balkans and Africa. Mike is a keen fell runner and has completed the Joss Naylor Lakeland Challenge, but failed miserably on the Bob Graham!

Retired Ambulance Service Manager (30 years) and NHS Counter Fraud Officer.
Presently Chair of Cumbria County Council Standards Committee and sits on Cumbria County Council School and Exclusions Panel, Driver for Cumbria Health on Call (CHoC) and Magistrate.
Interests: Allotment, gardening, cycling and reading, charity work. Part of the Fred Whitton Challenge management team.

Cllr Chris Anderson

Chris Anderson is a Cartmel Councillor who has lived in Cartmel since 2000 and is one of the longest-serving current councillors. His interests are most sports, playing squash, bird watching and walking the dog.

Cllr Anderson is Involved in projects in the Cartmel area including the Accessible Toilets committee. He also is a council representative for the UHUC trust in conjunction with Backbarrow for elder support and access to work and is a member of the Cartmel Trust playground committee.

Cllr Barry Dean - Cartmel

Cllr Barry Dean

Residing within the Cartmel Conservation Area for the past 15 years, I have enjoyed family connections with the village for more than 60 years. Qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor, I established my own Practice in Rochdale, eventually employing up to 20 colleagues, specialising in Valuations, Structural Surveying, Planning, Development and Rent negotiations. I was invited to head the Parish Council’s Cartmel Township Initiative Sub-Group from 2013 and became a Councillor in 2017. Since then I have been involved with all aspects of Council work, especially when pertaining to my past professional experience. I enjoy many interests, including gardening, walking, the gym, cooking, together with voluntary work at the Priory Church and the Cartmel Village Society.

Cllr Ruth Donally - Cartmel

I was born in the area and have lived in Cartmel my whole life. My family also remain in the Cartmel/Allithwaite area. I recently retired from full-time work as a Quantity Surveyor working on a wide range of large scale construction projects across the UK and overseas. I have undertaken voluntary work in the area, such as the Poppy Appeal and as a Coordinator during the early stages of the COVID pandemic.

Cllr Dave Huggett - Cartmel

Cllr Huggett is a Retired Chartered Engineer who arrived in Cumbria in 1984 having travelled extensively with work ending up working in Barrow and Kendal.
He is married with 2 children who have returned to their roots and now live and work in Kendal. Cllr Huggett was inveigled into the local community as a volunteer when his children were young, he has stayed heavily involved in a number of projects including; Steering Holker Playgroup through Accreditation with the PPA as Chairman and Becoming involved with Cartmel Priory and has helped out on the Parochial council and Fabric Committee over the years helping to maintain the historic building.

In his spare(?) time Cllr Huggett enjoys walking up in the Lakeland Fells, sailing his boat on Windermere and more recently cruising slowly through the canal network. Cllr Huggett says that he is told he spends too much time talking to people but continues to enjoy helping people out where possible!

Cllr Rowena Lewis

Rowena moved to Cartmel Peninsula 3 years ago with her family. She works for a local charity with a focus on governance and safeguarding. She enjoys encouraging wildlife and rewilding and is passionate about keeping the peninsula green!

Julie Hendry

Julie is an ex-NHS scientist and manager who took early retirement to spend more time in the Lakes, she lives in Windermere and enjoys the challenges of working as a Parish Clerk and applying her skills in local government. In her spare time (!) she loves scuba diving and walking and has recently bought an e-bike to help cope with going up and down the various hills of which there are plenty in the Lakes!
